1934: 20′ pole L-4 Tower was built here (approximately)

1950: Destroyed

1997: Silver Mountain built this current L-4 cab and it was intermittently staffed in the beginning years. However it has not been staffed in recent years and it appears to have fallen into some disrepair. Silver Mountain highlights the tower as a hiking destination during summer – a short 3.7mile round trip hike from their summit lodge. Interpretive guide: Phil Ruff.

OUR NOTES

We first visited Kellogg Peak in the early 2000s during one of the Silver Valley LOCALS day events. We talked with the lookout manning the tower at the time who was a very nice gentleman (we cant recall his name). At the time the tower appeared brand new.

We see this tower every winter when we go skiing at Silver Mountain off Chair 2 and tip our hat to it each time.

However we made a summer visit again this year, 2024 for Silver Valley Locals Day again. Its unfortunate that it is no longer staffed, definitely unused for a length of time and in need of some TLC.
