Kings Pass

Hike-inDestroyed / Removed
Elevation: 4404′Coeur d’Alene National Forest

History

1934: L-4 on a Pole Tower
1950’s: Destroyed

Our Notes

The road to the lookout is in solid shape, but it’s gated, so you’ll have to hoof it a few miles from the pass to where the lookout once stood out on the point.

As you hike in, you’ll pass through areas showing signs of both logging and wildfire. Much of the ridge is exposed.

At the site, quite a few remnants remain. The most prominent is a large microwave tower or antenna system that looks far more modern than the 1950s era when the lookout was active. We haven’t been able to confirm whether this was ever a USFS electronic site or if it was used by another agency.

Scattered debris, old footings, and some classic number 9 wire can still be found around the area.
