History

1931 – Nez Perce L-5 Log Cabin
1970s – Abandoned
1999 – Restoration work started
2004 – Added to the National Historic Lookout Register

There were only a few of the famed “Nez Perce L-5” log cabin lookouts built, and Square Mountain is one of the best of the last on the Nez Perce National Forest. Built in 1931 and in service until the 1970s, the cabin is being carefully restored by the regional Historic Preservation Team and a Pass Passport In Time project with lightning protection materials from the Idaho/Montana FFLA chapter. – The National Historic Lookout Register
